Questions you may have.
Yes, you just need to understand the basics, our qualified trainer will guide you through the process and give you time to practice to give you basic skills. To be competent you will still need to practice.
It is important to always wear your welding shield when welding and never look directly at anyone welding without one. OHS and safety is covered off in the class.
MIG – Metal Inert Gas (GMW – Gas metal arc welding) – is an arc welding process that uses continuous solid wire electrode heated and fed into the weld pool from a welding gun.
MIG in simple english – you use a hand piece and press the trigger and using continuous solid wire electrode you make a weld. MIG is used in general purpose welding.
TIG – (Gas Tungsten arc welding) is the process of using electric arc with a TIG electrode made of tungsten that does not melt into the weld pool. The wire is fed manually into the weld pool to form the weld.
TIG in simple english – you use a hand piece that houses a tungsten electrode, that creates the heat which in turn makes a weld. TIG is a specialised process used to weld exotic metals, however can be used for general welding for cleaner, more precise welding.
STICK – (Electrode welding) is the traditional electric arc welding process that uses a consumable electrode covered with flux to lay the weld. The electrode is manually placed in the hand piece.
STICK in simple english – is the welding you mostly see on TV. Stick is very versatile, it can be used in a broad range of situations. It does not require the use of shielding gas, and is easy to perform outdoors and in windy conditions.
